TransAmerica Bike Ride Day 7 – 83 miles

I’m sure Ansel Adams could have found a picture worth framing out in the desert I rode thru today. It looked pretty much the same as the previous 3 days. So here’s my photo of the day.

That’s almost 200 feet above Denver. I rode 30 miles above 5000 feet. It’s a good thing I wasn’t wearing a heart monitor because it would have been screaming about my pending heart attack all day.
Fear not though, I made the trek over my highest mountain pass so far and arrived safely in Seligman where I took a room at the Route 66 Motel. I’m staying in the room that Coni Lee slept in. Every room has a famous person on the door.
Since my day was pretty boring let me rant about drivers. Semi drivers are my favorite. These guys are professionals and they act like it. They’re great at sharing the road. City bus drivers come next. Long haul bus drivers like Greyhound or Trailways aren’t nearly as nice about sharing the road, and charter bus drivers are just plain frightening.
Pickup truck drivers fall at opposite ends of the spectrum. There are the true assholes and the folks who are trying to make up for the assholes. With passenger cars there’s no telling what you get.
This is a good example of the kinds of things that run thru my head when the scenery is boring.
Keep me in your thoughts tomorrow. I have to ride more than 50 miles on I-40 to get to Flagstaff. There’s no way around it.

    1. I haven’t encountered any true assholes. A lot of ignorant drivers but no malicious ones. Even riding on the Interstate has been less troublesome than I expected.
